Short Everest Trekking Itineraries: 3 to 7-Day Adventures You Can Do in a Week
Venturing into the Everest region is a dream for many, offering up-close experience with spectacular Himalayan views and the unique Sherpa culture. Even a short trek will be an amazing experience, being in the presence of the world’s highest peaks.
If you are short on time or lack extensive trekking experience, a five-day trek is the best option. These routes are moderate in terms of physical fitness and expose you to many of the highlights of the area without pushing you physically.
Short treks in the Everest region allow for quality time in the area and usually fit well into a week-long adventure. This gives you all the time to visit traditionally well-known sites like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche Monastery, and soak in the views enjoyed by adventurers for many years.
The best time of year to visit is spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). The weather will be warmer, and visibility is usually good. You are at less of a risk of searching for trekking destinations towards the end of the monsoon season. You won’t face long winter nights, and well-justified trekking can provide new adventures as the weather is generally more reliable.
Planning Your Short Everest Trek
For your trek to Everest, you will need to get a Sagarmatha National Park Permit and a TIMS Card. Both can be acquired in Kathmandu or Monjo; they are required to enter the Everest area.
Most trekkers fly into Lukla, the main trailhead from which the trek develops. However, longer drive trails can be found to Jiri or Phaplu, where you can hike for several days to connect with the Everest trails.
Pack light: clothing layers, a down jacket, heavy-duty hiking boots, waterproofs, a sleeping bag, sunscreen, and a basic first-aid kit are all you necessarily need. The essentials are much more important than extra gear for a short trek.
There are many comfortable teahouses and lodges where basic meals – dal bhat and noodles will be served along the recognized main routes. Each night, you have a warm bed to look forward to at the end of your trekking day.

Alternative Short Treks in the Everest Region
The Gokyo Lakes trek provides a beautiful alternative trek in the Everest region to see bright turquoise lakes and magnificent glacial valleys. If you have the time for a demanding trek, then it continually offers stunning scenery, a unique Sherpa culture, and calm alpine wetlands.
If you’re looking for a trek that is a little bit easier and less crowded, the Pikey Peak trek is reasonable and is also nearby, traveling by road from Kathmandu.
